Nixon enjoys trip to TCU

Lake Travis 2014 runningback Shaun Nixon currently holds five offers. The highly regarded prospect recently made an unofficial visit to TCU.

Lake Travis, Texas runningback Shaun Nixon is already regarded as one of the top prospects to watch from the 2014 class. The 5-foot-10, 185-pounder started as a sophomore for the Cavaliers as they won their fifth consecutive state championship.

As a sophomore Nixon did his part as an all-purpose back rushing for 1,272 yards and 15 scores while hauling in 25 catches for 366 yards and 3 more scores as a receiver.

It wasn't long before Nixon received his first offer when Clemson came into the picture. Since the Tigers' offer, Nixon has added offers from Texas A&M, Texas Tech, SMU and Baylor. Others such as TCU and Texas are showing interest.

Nixon recently made a visit to TCU to work out for the Frog coaches and take a tour of the campus. The visit impressed the rising prospect.

"TCU was great, coach (Glasgow) showed us around the whole school, we got a chance to see everything," Nixon said. "I liked how the neighborhood is around the school, there's a lot of trees and everything; it was fun to go out there. We also got to see one of our ex-teammates, Griffin Gilbert. We got to see how good the players are and how they work out."

Although the construction is ongoing around the athletic facilities, Nixon knows the finished product will be a sight to see.

"They were still building a lot of things and they're putting the finishing touches on the locker room. It sounds like everything is going to be great," he said. "They're still working on a lot of things so we didn't get to see everything."

Nixon traveled to Ft. Worth with Lake Travis teammate Baker Mayfield and the pair went through a variety of drills.

"We did a couple of drills, forty and vertical and did some other drills," Nixon said said. "I jumped 36" for my vertical and I ran a 4.5 and almost hit a 4.4. Other than that we did some drills like catching the ball and saw where Baker's accuracy is and how well I can catch."

With five offers already on the table, Nixon hasn't discussed the possibility of an offer with the TCU coaching staff. However, he knows he's among the players they're strongly considering.

"No they haven't but the coaches at my school say they really have a great interest in me and that I'm still on their radar," he said. "But they haven't mentioned anything about an offer to me."

Nixon says two programs currently standout above the others.

"Texas A&M is, they've given me the most interest," Nixon said. "I talked with Texas not too long ago, they said I was still on their radar."

While the Aggies and Longhorns appear to have the lead above the others, Nixon is quick to admit TCU is another school that interests him.

"TCU is one, I really like that school," Nixon said.
