Thigpen Drawing Interest

Arlington (TX) Bowie 2014 offensive lineman Kris Thigpen is drawing interest from several schools.

Arlington (TX) Bowie won the district 3-5A title Thursday night with a convincing 44-26 victory over rival Arlington Martin. The Volunteers racked up 567 total yards, including 345 yards on the ground in the win. Leading the way for the Bowie offensive line was 2014 prospect Kris Thigpen.

The 6-foot-4, 260-pounder was happy to get the championship for the seniors on senior night.

"It's special for me, I did it for my senior teammates," he said. "This is their win; I'll get mine next year."

Thigpen spent much of the night going head-to-head with Myles Garrett, the nation's No. 16 rated defensive end for the 2014 class. Thigpen won a majority of snaps on the night.

"Me and Myles played basketball together so I've seen him since we were about knee high to a grasshopper," he said. "We knew it was going to be a good matchup all night long and it was an honor and pleasure going up against him. I look forward to going against him next year."

Several schools have started to show Thigpen interest, including TCU.

"A lot of Texas schools; Texas Tech, TCU is showing me a lot of love, the whole Big 12 conference in general," Thigpen said of schools showing interest.

Thigpen said he has a familiarity with the Frogs being the biggest program in town.

"They're talking about what kind of good school they have and they have Nike Combat uniforms and what type of people they graduate," he said. "I've received stuff about former Frogs."

The rising prospect says it's too early to name a #1 favorite but mentions TCU is a school he does like. However, Texas Tech appears to have caught his attention the most early on.

"I like TCU but I've got to put Texas Tech on top, I like Coach Tuberville down there, I know that's a place where I can pick up the weight and still move to catch up with those skinny linebackers."

Thigpen will visit his first college game this season in the next few weeks when Baylor and Texas Tech take the field at Cowboys Stadium.

"I'm going to the Texas Tech-Baylor game at Cowboys Stadium and that's going to be a pleasure for me," Thigpen said.
