Newell, who has quickly built an impressive offer list that includes Nebraska, South Carolina, UCLA, Oklahoma State and Kansas State, talked about his Irish experience.
Newell learned quickly about all things Irish.
"It was really good and everything I expected," said Newell. "There is definitely a lot of tradition at Notre Dame and a lot of things that catch your eye. Overall I was really impressed and enjoyed the visit."
Newell was quick to point out some of the simple but important things associated with the Irish program.
"Just the tradition really sticks with you," said Newell. "Everything from the "Play Like A Champions Today" sign to the overall game day atmosphere.
"It was kind of an emotional time for me being there knowing I could be there in a few years. I spoke with Manti Te'o and Kapron Lewis-Moore after the game in the locker room and right before their interviews and you could tell they were emotional. It was really a good feeling to see how Notre Dame has treated them."
While the Irish have not offered, Newell came away with a positive feeling.
"I really didn't get to talk with them (coaches) that much as they said they really do very little recruiting during the season," said Newell. "But they said they are interested in me and will be getting with me after the season.
"It would mean a lot to earn an offer from Notre Dame and I'm definitely interested in getting an offer from the No. 1 team in the nation."
