Akamnonu Likes TCU Practice

Arlington (TX) Bowie offensive lineman Madison Akamnonu is one to watch from the 2015 class.

TCU held their first scrimmage of the spring last Thursday and in attendance were a handful of prospects. Among those prospects was 2015 offensive lineman Madison Akamnonu.

The 6-foot-5, 250-pounder out of Arlington Bowie is one to watch from the 2015 class after starting every game last year at left tackle for the district champion Volunteers.

Akamnonu is still relatively new to football, growing up playing basketball. But, with ideal size and good footwork, he'll without a doubt draw the interest of college programs nationwide. TCU could be one of those teams and the big lineman liked what he saw at the Frogs' practice last week.

"I thought they had a pretty good team and they had a high intensity," he said. "It made me want to throw my pads on and go out there with them and play."

Akamnonu spent most of the scrimmage focusing solely on the linemen and he gained an appreciation of good the unit was.

"I saw how fast they put their hands on the opponent and are always the first one's off the ball," he said.

During the scrimmage, Akamnonu also had a brief moment to chat with his former head coach at Bowie, Kenny Perry, and other members of the Frogs' coaching staff.

"I talked to them for a brief while just to say hi and tell them my name and everything," Akamnonu said. "I was telling them what I thought of my experience there. They said they were going to keep a watch over all of us."

This off-season Akamnonu is working on adding more weight to his frame.

"I'm just working out, working on my pass pro and we're trying to get ready for the survival camp coming up," he said.
