With the start of the 2013 season just days away when the Frogs report to camp, HFB.com takes a look at the top 11 impact players that are vital to the Frogs success in their second season in the Big 12.
At No. 8 in our countdown of top impact players is junior linebacker Marcus Mallet.

What makes Mallet an impact player?Kenny Cain is gone and it's Marcus Mallet's time to shine. The RS Junior out of Cleveland HS in Cleveland, TX showed glimpses of dominance but was inconsistent and wound up starting only 2 games in 2012 because of his streaky play. As Mallet grasps the defensive concepts of Head Coach Gary Patterson's swarming 4-2-5 defense, he'll continue to grow into a starring role from his linebacker position. TCU lacks depth at linebacker and because of that, Mallet's need for improvement is even more urgent. While Mallet racked up just 18 total tackles last season, his 5 tackles for loss indicated that he's a defender that's capable of shutting down runners and that he has the quickness to be an impact player on the best defense in the Big 12. A player that can consistently make tackles behind the line of scrimmage is imperative to TCU's defense and Mallet could be just what the doctor ordered. When TCU ventured to Morgantown and battled West Virginia to a 39-38 double overtime victory, Mallet was at his best. With 7 tackles and 2 tackles for loss, the athletic defender proved he has what it takes to succeed on the big stage. In 2013, the Cleveland, TX native will be called upon more than ever before and odds are, he'll answer the bell.
