Fourth quarter collapse

West Virginia got its first road win of the season at Amon G. Carter stadium Saturday with a 30-27 win over TCU.

After leading 17-3, the TCU offense got complacent, quarterback Casey Pachall said.

"Everyone on this team needs to look within themselves and find out if they really love playing this game," Pachall said.

The TCU quarterback completed 40 passes against West Virginia for 394 yards.

"We gave one away," head coach Gary Patterson opined. "To change your luck, you have to do it yourself. You have to take ballgames. That's just the way it is."

The Mountaineers scored 24 unanswered points before the TCU offense tied the game at 27 with under a minute to play.

Jaden Oberkrom hit a 45 yard field goal with 19 seconds to play.

Again in overtime, the Frogs collapsed.

On their overtime drive, TCU lost six yards on first down. On second down, any positive a dead-ball 15 yard personal foul penalty by senior offensive lineman John Woolridge forced a 3rd and 30. The third down pass fell incomplete.

As a result, TCU was forced to kick a 62 yard field goal in overtime. That tied the college football record for the longest field goal attempt in overtime. Kicker Jaden Oberkrom's field goal missed wide.

"It comes down to whoever wants it more," Jason Verrett said. "It looked like they wanted it more."

"It's going to come down to leadership in the locker room...It hurts losing a game like this."

TCU takes on Iowa State next week, needing to win all three games to make a bowl game.

"I told them after the game I was proud of the way they came back and gave themselves an opportunity to get back in the game," Patterson said. "What we have to do is quit waiting until the final six minutes of the ball game to play at that level."

Note: Boykin's 11 receptions mark the most by a TCU player in 13 seasons under Gary Patterson. Eleven receptions was the most by a TCU player since John Washington hauled in 13 catches in 1995.
