Mittie sees promise in freshmen

Women's basketball coach Jeff Mittie

Jeff Mittie and players Donielle Brough and Latricia Lovings speak with the media about their expectations for their second year in the Big 12.

Jeff Mittie had to play a host of young players last season that had to learn to win in the Big 12. Toward the end of the 2012-2013 season, Mittie felt his team was learning to do so.

Fast forward eight months, and Mittie has added four talented freshmen to his roster including three McDonalds All-American nominees.

Also returning for the women's team is reigning Big 12 newcomer of the year, Zahna Medley. The Illinois native averaged 13 points per game as a true freshman and amassed an impressive 130 assists.

At times, she will be pushed to the shooting guard position this season so that Mittie can play Medley alongside freshman AJ Alix from Houston. Alix ranked 48th in the ESPNU 100 last year.

On the interior, Mittie has added 6'6 center Klara Bradshaw who will add important depth to the front court. Bradshaw averaged 8.6 blocks per game in her all-state senior season.
