"TCU is what I'm looking at in a college. It's not a huge school. It has a small environment feel and it's right down the road from me," replied Tabor to BigPurpleNation.com. In addition to TCU, Tabor is also interested in Baylor, Oklahoma State, and Texas A&M. "Those are the schools that are giving me the most attention. They aren't necessarily my favorite schools but the ones that are in the most contact with me…If I had to say, my top two would be TCU and Baylor."
The 2008 senior has had no offers yet but does expect things to happen soon. "I do talk to the Oklahoma State and A.M. coaches every now and then but, everybody is taking a break from recruiting now that camps are over. I really expect it pick up later in the summer," replied the running back.
Tabor is a physically an unbelievable running back prospect with great speed (4.4 forty) and the size of a fullback (215 pounds, benches- 385 and squats– 565). With attributes like that, a switch to the defense as a linebacker could be in his college future.
In 2006, he rushed for 1254 yards and 21 touchdowns earning first team all 20-3A honors and leading Crocket High School to an 8-4 overall record. As a junior, Tabor had 120 carries for 1,050 yards and 14 total touchdowns. I'm really wanting to work on getting more yardage," said Tyler. "We had a new coaching staff last year and I only had about 120 carries. I really have a good relationship now with the staff and I think I will have more carries which means more yards."
After two stellar seasons, the senior is excited for his last year of high school, "We are a really young team. Last year we finished with an 8-4 record. This year we are returning 8 starters on both sides of the ball. I really think this year is going to be our best year for our town."
First things first, Tyler has to finish a busy summer. "I have already been to the TCU camp, Baylor camp, and Oklahoma State camp. I still have the Houston, Texas A&M, and North Texas camps to go." After visiting TCU's camp, the senior to be walked away very impressed with Coach Patterson. "From what I can tell Coach Patterson seems like a great guy. I met him at the camp last month and he seems like he is real laid back. He is really straightforward and doesn't beat around the bush. He seems great."
Tabor plans to major in business and his current GPA is 2.75. "Academics are big for me. I'm not going to be able to play football my whole life. I want to get a good education," replied Tyler. Look for more Tyler Tabor updates from BigPurpleNation.com throughout the 2008 season.
