Former TCU Star Signs With Cubs
BigPurpleNation.com has learned that former TCU baseball star Andrew Cashner has reached a contract agreement with Major League Baseball's Chicago Cubs.
The deal will be announced later this week.
Cashner, a hard-throwing right-hander, led TCU to Mountain West Conference regular season and tournament titles in 2008, while leading the team with 9 wins, 9 saves, and 81 strikeouts in 30 appearances. He posted an impressive 2.32 ERA and 3-1 strikeouts-to-walks ratio in 54 innings pitched.
Cashner was recently named to Baseball America's All-America team following his stellar senior season and was the Cubs' top draft pick in the recent MLB Player Draft.
He will receive a $1.5 million dollar signing bonus in addition to his new contract and will be invited to the Cubs' 2009 spring training camp.
Not surprisingly, Cashner is thrilled to be joining the Cubs. "It's good to join a first-place club," Cashner told Scout's InsideTheIvy.com. "The Chicago fans are always great, win or lose. I'm excited to start my pro career."
BigPurpleNation.com and TCU Baseball fans are excited too.
And we will be watching closely as Andrew Cashner climbs the professional baseball ladder!
