Former TCU star Andrew Cashner and Major League Baseball's Chicago Cubs have finalized all the details on Cashner's brand new contract with the Cubs and the big right-hander is now on his way to Mesa, Arizona to join the Cubs' Arizona Rookie League team.
Cashner's stay with the Mesa Cubs may be a short one, however, as the initial game plan calls for the former TCU closer to pitch for Mesa for only 2-3 weeks before being promoted to the Boise (Idaho) Hawks, the Cubs' short-season Class A affiliate.
Cashner was the Cubs' first round draft pick in June's Major League Baseball Player Draft, following an outstanding season at TCU in which he posted a 9-4 record with 9 saves and a 2.32 ERA, while striking out 81 batters in 54 innings pitched.
Cashner's postseason honors included being named to the All Mountain West Conference team and Baseball America's All-America team.
