2008 Freshman Scouting Report: Blaize Foltz

Continuing with our series of scouting reports on TCU's incoming freshmen, BigPurpleNation.com takes a look at offensive lineman Blaize Foltz.

Rose Hill High School just southeast of Wichita used to brag that it was the first school in the state to offer incoming students free lap top computers. Blaize Foltz gave the Rockets something else to crow about when, on February 6, he signed a letter of intent to play football for the Horned Frogs. In doing so, Foltz became the first RHHS athlete in any sport to earn a Division I scholarship.

On his Myspace page, Foltz lists Reggie White and Mike Singletary among his heroes. All football fans are familiar with those Hall of Fame names, but youngsters in the Rose Hill area now dream of being the next Baize Foltz and wearing the No. 50 jersey on Friday nights.

Primarily listed as an offensive tackle, the 6'4"/295-pound Foltz was named Defensive MVP for the Arkansas Valley-Chisholm Trail Div.-III League with 35 tackles, 13 assists, and two sacks. As a junior, he was credited with 64 tackles to go along with five sacks. He also registered 47 pancake blocks-- a block where his opposition ends up flat on the ground-- on offense.

Other awards bestowed upon Foltz included: 1st Team All-State, 1st Team All-Metro, 2-way 1st Team All-League, and one of the top 11 players in Kansas regardless of school classification. He was also selected to play in the Kansas Shrine Bowl for graduating seniors.

Also a starter for the Rockets basketball team, Foltz average 9.8 points and 5.7 rebounds in his final season. Despite being limited to 10 games due to football commitments, he scored in double figures in seven games and registered a double double against rival Mulvane.

Foltz joins the TCU offensive line at one of its strongest points in recent memory. The Frogs return four of their five starters from a year ago.

Foltz, who intendeds to major in engineering, benches 315 lbs. and squats 405. His high school GPA was 3.52 and he was an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
