After a solid junior season, Stony Point defensive end Tevin Mims has been getting a lot of recruiting attention. With offers from TCU, Arizona, Louisiana State, Iowa State, Georgia Tech, Ohio, and interest from Oklahoma State, the 6-foot-4, 225-pound defensive end told BigPurpleNation.com on Wednesday night that TCU is among his favorites.

"I'm thinking in the middle of the season I will decide. I'm wanting to hold out as long as I can to see what I can get. Oklahoma State is looking pretty good, but if they don't offer I'm probably going to TCU."

While the 2009 recruit has some good offers, he likes TCU for many reasons. "They got a great defense up there. It's a real good program that has been good for the past couple of years. I have been up the campus one time and it was a good environment. I think it would be a good place to live if you're a football player."

A 14-5A All-District selection last year, the junior recorded 40 tackles, four sacks, and four pass deflections.

One area of concern is that Mims is coming off of a shoulder surgery in March. Doctors repaired a torn labrum. "I think I'm back to full strength. I'm starting to feel pretty good." When asked if he thought the shoulder problem caused schools to be hesitant of him he answered, "I wouldn't say that it hurt recruiting. I haven't played since I tore it so I don't think people know any different."

After a 9-3 season last year, Mims is confident that his last year of high school could be his best. "I wouldn't necessarily say state but we are definitely going deep into the playoffs. We are going to surprise some people." According to TexasFootball.com, Stony Point High School is ranked 22nd in their Preseason Top 25.

Mims has a 2.77 GPA and will be taking the ACT later in the year.
