TCU linebacker Jason Phillips has received honorable-mention All-America
honors from SI.com.
Horned Frog defensive end Jerry Hughes was a first-team selection by SI.com.
Additionally, Hughes was chosen to ESPN.com's All-America team. The junior
from Sugar Land, Texas, has now been named to eight All-America teams in
addition to being a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and Ted
Hendricks Award.
Phillips is the only defensive player in Mountain West Conference history to
be a first- or second-team all-conference selection in four consecutive
seasons. He was a first-team pick in 2008.
A native of Waller, Texas, Phillips tops TCU with 79 tackles. It's the third
time in four seasons he has led the Horned Frogs in stops. Phillips is
second on the team, behind only Hughes, with 12.0 tackles for loss. He has
3.5 sacks.
Phillips, who has totaled 310 career tackles, has started all but one game
over the last four seasons. He did not play in this year's Stephen F. Austin
contest due to injury.
