Midlands Recruiting Mailbag (6/10/14)

Brooks Burgin

Scout.com tackles questions in its weekly Midlands Recruiting Mailbag feature...

Q: With Quinten Dormady and Bo Schneider making their commits the quarterback dominoes are starting to fall in Texas, who do you see as that next wave of guys picking up offers now?

A: This is a great question. I do expect a next wave of offers going out at as the summer progresses in to the fall I suspect you will be adding names to the watch list. Brooks Burgin at Highland Park is one to watch. He has put up the numbers on the field and backed it up with wins, most recently the EOC Playmakers 7v7. Matthew Merrick at Cistercian Prep is on the watch list now and has emerged as name we are now tracking more closely. Justin McMillan at Cedar Hill quarterbacked a state title team and the wily lefty has progressed as a thrower. Jaylon Henderson and Ryan Agnew are solid all-around options. There are definitely some others to note, but for now these are some to note.

Q: Looking at the 2015 Nebraska commit list, what sticks out to you?

A: That is an easy one for me. Being a Midlands guy the Davis twins stick out, as they should. Carlos Davis and Khalil Davis are bringing athleticism and strength in to a premium position. I am talking about guys north of 250 pounds being able to do back flips and throw the Shot put for national prep records. That is a scary combination and their arrival on campus will bolster the defensive line. I especially, love the game of Carlos. When I went to see him live he not only possessed a special size, but plays hard every snap and is relentless in his pursuit of the ball.

Q: What is Oklahoma getting in running back Rodney Anderson?

A: Life is good if you are OU running backs coach Cale Gundy, as it seems like every year the Sooners are inking a top back. They now have Alex Ross stacked on top of Keith Ford, Joe Mixon and now Rodney Anderson. Anderson fits right in with the rest on this bunch. He is a bigger framed back who can really run and move. He has put up nice numbers in the Katy offense and has a nice blend of skills. he has great agility and can cut on a dime and has a good set of hands for catching the ball out of the backfield. A well-rounded skill set is what the Sooners are getting in the Anderson package.

Q: Who do you pick in the Wylie SQT this weekend?

A: I am hitting about 50% of my selections so far I believe, but this weekend is not any easier,, matter of fact it may be tougher.I picked Sachse last weekend and they almost qualified with a stout defense, but just could not get enough offense going to advance. This week I am going with traditonal 7v7 powers. In the A&B pools there are some solid teams (Wylie, Arlington, Rockwall, McKinney, Wylie East, Plano, Rowlett, Hebron), but I am going to roll with Arlington over Hebron. In pools C&D (Lovejoy, Plano East, Mesquite, Sachse, North Mesquite, Arlington Martin, Denison, Dallas Jesuit) give me Mesquite over Dallas Jesuit.
