Commitment Watch: Week 1

See where each of the Frogs' commits will be in action this week.

Week 1 of the Texas high school football season is upon us and it's time to take a look at where TCU commits will be in action this week.

WHERE HFB WILL BE:
South Oak Cliff vs. South Grand Prairie
Prospects: Jaelan Austin, Jeffery Okudah (SGP); J.F. Thomas, Marvin Terry (SOC)


Jaelan Austin

South Grand Prairie (0-1) vs. Dallas South Oak Cliff (0-1); Friday September 5th, 7:30pm –Gopher-Warrior Bowl

Both teams are looking for their first wins of the year after opening their season with losses to two of the top teams in the state. Austin had a breakout game in SGP’s loss to Skyline, hauling in 6 catches for 124 yards and 2 scores. He’ll face another loaded secondary in South Oak Cliff. SOC is coming off a 56-34 loss to Cedar Hill.


Joseph Broadnax

Dallas Bryan Adams (1-0) vs. Celina (1-0); Friday, September 5th; 7:30pm – Forester Field – Dallas

Broadnax and his Bryan Adams teammates got off to a great start in week 0 with a 41-7 win over Dallas Roosevelt. The opponent won’t be as easy this week as traditional power Celina comes to town. Broadnax will have to have a repeat performance from last week when he recorded 9 tackles and 3 TFL’s if the Cougars are to even remain close. Celina is coming off a 47-27 over Argyle Liberty last week.


Alec Dunham

Coldspring – Oakhurst @ Silsbee; Friday September 5th, 7:30pm – Silsbee

Dunham and Coldspring are looking to bounce back in week 1 after a disappointing 27-14 loss to Huntsville last week. Silsbee is also looking to bounce back after a 42-24 loss to Barbers Hill. Silsbee is led by Texas A&M 2016 commit Patrick Hudson.


Darrion Flowers

Sam Houston (1-0) vs. North Mesquite (1-0); Thursday, September 4, 7:00pm; Wilemon Field

Flowers hopes to help his team improve to 2-0 on the season with a Thursday night match up against North Mesquite. Sam Houston won their opener over Manor last week while North Mesquite defeated Garland Naaman Forest.


Jeff Gladney

New Boston (0-1) vs. Pleasant Grove (1-0); Friday, September 5th, 7:30pm – New Boston

Surprisingly, New Boston lost their season opener in big fashion with a 41-7 loss to Atlanta. Pleasant Grove defeated Pittsburg in a thrilling win; 26-25.


Tre'vontae Hights

Yoakum (1-0) vs. Hallettsville (0-1); Friday, September 5th, 7:30pm – Yoakum

Yoakum had a dominating performance in week 0 with a big 54-0 win over Marion. Hights was just as dominant accounting for 325 total yards and 3 scores. Hallettsville lost their season opener to 31-20 to Columbia.


Cordel Iwuagwu

Spring Westfield (0-1) vs. Clear Brook (0-1); Thursday, September 4th, 7:00pm – Clear Brook High School

Spring Westfield lost a big game in Week 0 losing to Manvel 35-10. They hope to get on the winning track this week against Clear Brook, who lost their first game of the season to La Porte 40-14.


Tony James

Arlington Bowie (1-0) vs. Cedar Hill (1-0); Friday, September 5th, 7:30pm – Cedar Hill

Bowie racked up nearly 900 yards of offense last week in their 72-49 win over Dallas Jesuit. Tony James accounted for 599 of those yards and seven scores. Bowie will need to see magic from their quarterback again this week if they’re to beat defending state champion Cedar Hill. The Longhorns beat a loaded South Oak Cliff team in week 0 by a score of 56-34.


Julius Lewis

Mansfield (1-0) at Waco Midway (1-0); Friday, September 5th, 7:30pm – Waco Midway

Lewis and Mansfield are looking to improve to 2-0 on the season but they face a tough opponent with the Ben Hicks led Waco Midway Panthers. Mansfield defeated Flower Mound Marcus 29-16 while Midway upset Lake Travis 38-30. Lewis will get tested this week by Hicks, a Houston commit, and his star receiver Devontre Strickland, a Baylor commit.


Breylin Mitchell

Round Rock (0-1) at Killeen (1-0); Friday September 5th, 7:30pm – Killeen

Round Rock lost a heart breaker in week 0 against Temple, losing 35-28. The Dragons allowed over 300 rushing yards and nearly 500 yards of offense. Killeen is coming off a 23-20 win over Leander.


Niko Small

Arlington Bowie (1-0) vs. Cedar Hill (1-0); Friday, September 5th, 7:30pm – Cedar Hill

Bowie’s defense will have to play better than last week in the secondary when they gave up nearly 500 passing yards in a 72-49 win over Dallas Jesuit last week. LSU commit Justin McMillan and A&M commit and 5-star receiver DaMarkus Lodge have the ability to make big plays but they were limited last week to only 94 yards through the air in their 56-34 win over South Oak Cliff.


Jarrison Stewart

Mesquite Horn (1-0) vs. Duncanville (1-0); Friday, September 5th, 7:30pm – Hanby Stadium; Mesquite

Stewart started the year with a bang by hauling in 10 catches for 113 yards and a score in the Jaguars 21-15 win over McKinney Boyd. Duncanville won a thrilling game over Arlington 32-29 while allowing only 80 yards through the air.


J.F. Thomas

South Oak Cliff vs. South Grand Prairie; Friday, September 5th, 7:30pm – Gopher-Warrior Bowl

South Oak Cliff stayed neck and neck with defending champ Cedar Hill last week before falling behind in the second half and ultimately losing the game 56-34. Thomas had a stellar game against the Longhorns secondary by hauling in 4 catches for 108 yards and 2 scores. He had another touchdown reception called back due to penalty. South Grand Prairie gave up 224 yards through the air last week in their 40-21 loss to Dallas Skyline.


Semaje Thomas

Ft. Worth Southwest (0-1) vs. Everman (1-0); Friday, September 5th, 7:30pm – Everman

Thomas and his Southwest teammates had a rough night against Boswell in week 0, particularly on defense where they allowed 462 yards to the Pioneers. Thomas was a bright spot with 10 tackles including 2 TFL’s. The road doesn’t get any easier this week as they travel to face a strong Everman team that beat Nolan Catholic 21-10 last week.


2016 COMMITS

Jonathan Marshall

Shepherd (1-0) vs. Kountze (0-0); Friday, September 5th, 7:30pm – Shepherd

Shepherd had a dominating performance last week in a dominating 34-0 win over Cleveland. Marshall in the defensive effort by totaling 5 tackles on the night. Kountze did not have a game in week 0.


Brennen Wooten

Marble Falls(0-1) vs. SA Jay (1-0); Saturday, September 6th, 7:30pm – SA Jay

Marble Falls is looking to bounce back from a tough loss last week as they fell to rival Burnet 51-45. Wooten did all he could in the loss, throwing for 463 yards and 4 scores in the loss. They’ll be facing a SA Jay team that is coming off a big 66-45 win over SA Brackenridge.

Mike Freeze is no longer at Graham and is at Weatherford. He is not playing football this season.
